In our lives we all feel we need a purpose, my purpose in life is to rescue retired greyhounds. It started out small but grew, last year I lost three of my beloved hounds, Jake who was 7, Jeepers who was 12 and Don who was also 12. |

Lets start with Jake, he was 4 years old when we got him, he was never supposed to leave the race track in Pensacola Florida, we adopted him on Good Friday of that year, He was shy at first but then began to love and trust us.When he turned 7, we started noticing his behavior changing, he just wasn't himself, he was diagnosed with osteoscarma, the worse form of bone cancer there is, hope was grim for my beautiful Jake, but we decided to take a very aggressive treatment plan because he was so young, first his leg was amputed then he started his chemo treatments. He did great through it all for seven months, then on May 31, 2008 Jake lost his fight, the cancer was running through his beautiful body and a decision had to be made to end what suffering was ahead for Jake. Its almost a year your gone Jake, but I still see you in my dreams and hear your footsteps on the kitchen floor. I miss you and always will. |

Now Jeepers and Don, its very interesting how they came to us, these two beauties came to us from my sister Michele who lives in Florida, She adopted them when they were probally 5 or six years old. Three years ago intwo horrible hurricanes in Florida my sister and her family lost their home, they had to move into a motor home for a year or so until they were able to buy a new home to live in. Things became quite cramped for thefamily and Don and Jeepers were starting to feel the effects of the stress in the living situation, I offered to take them from my sister and her family until things got better for them. Well three years later, Don and Jeepers were stillwith my husband and I. They left us suddenly within a week of each other last October, I guess once Jeepers passed, Don felt the loss as we did, he passed eight days later. They came together and left the same way.All three are sadly missed, I hope they found each other when they crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. |
